Reindeer Pointers to Remember at Christmastime

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.

Female reindeer retain their antlers 'til after they give birth in the spring.

To recap:
- All reindeer have antlers in the summer
- Male reindeer drop theirs by mid-December
- Christmas is in late December
- Female reindeer keep theirs until spring

Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be ... a girl.

We should've known... only women would be able to drag a fat-ass man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

I guess this also explains why Santa spent so much time in the stables, eh?

You have made my Christmas (Xmas for some) much brighter with this enlightening posting.

I had heard that the female had the antlers, I had not known the seasonal/hormonal reason.

Thanks, and there is a modicum of truth to it, too. lol
